The transplant terror thriller Awake presented all those based dread, and should not be recommended patients who experience to visit your own doctor anytime soon. Awake refers to an unusual phenomenon. In medical term it is called as “anesthetic awareness” which is being experienced by some patients during surgery, where their bodies do not work anymore but they can see and feel everything.
According to the film, Clayton ( Hayden Christensen) has everything : money, a lovely mom, his own company, a world in his hand, and of course a beautiful woman. But, unfortunately he has unhealthy heart. He is on the list for transplant and he insisted to be operated by his good friend Jack Harper and the woman he loves, Samantha Lockwood (Jessica Alba) a girl who works as an assistant to widowed mother, Lilith. Clayton has been engaging, but he’s nervous about telling his mom who has been unnaturally attached to her son since her husband died and Clayton knows she won’t approve. Finally, he tries to tell her on the night of the company Halloween party, he gets exactly the reaction he expected. Clayton propose to Sam, she accepts and they decide to get married. Not long after the midnight ceremony, Clayton gets the call he has been waiting for a healthy heart which has just be available. Clayton and Sam rush to the hospital where Lilith is already waiting with last plea to allow heart surgeon Dr. Jonathan to perform the surgery instead of Jack who’s currently facing malpractice. However, a surgery must be carried on, is wheeled into the operating room. About eleven hours for Jack’s usual anesthesiologist. Clayton comes to the horrifying realization while anesthesia has complete operated his body, his mind and his sense are still quite alert. They prepare to remove his heart. Worse, he can also hear someone is making sure he won’t be alive.
My terrifying idea, all anesthesia patients could be a victim in this case. You should not easily trust anyone whom you really know even they are your close friends or your lovers. This movie is pretty cool. I had to overlook some scene; especially; operating process. In this movie, he is a wealth financial genius person who mistakenly awakens during his heart surgery. Although, he is fully conscious, the anesthetic keeps him becomes paralyze and unable to communicate. During the terrifying experience, he overhears the doctor’s conversation and learn that his surgery is a part of a sinister conspiracy.
